At UC Berkeley I taught undergraduate classes on comparative politics, immigration and citizenship, quantitative research methods, West European politics and political economy. I also volunteered as a math instructor at San Quentin state prison through the Prison University Project. At the EUI I am working towards a certificate of teaching proficiency that includes a teaching exchange at the London School of Economics.
I have benefited as an instructor and scholar from combining teaching and research. For example, I encouraged students in a class on immigration and citizenship to collect information on their family histories of immigration. This helped me see that family members often reach collective decisions on matters of immigration and citizenship. This became the core argument in my dissertation. Bringing together teaching and learning will remain a priority in my academic career. Please contact me for a detailed statement of teaching philosophy and evidence of effectiveness.
