Research interests
My research interests center on Europe in the 17th century, with a particular emphasis on Germany and France. I am interested in a broad range of topics in the political, social, and cultural history of early modern Europe, among which are confessionalization and the Counter-reformation; the history of friendship and patronage; the history of everyday life in court society; early modern European nobilities, especially under the perspective of comparative and entangled history; processes of state-building; the reception of Antiquity in early modern Europe, and the application of social and cultural theory to early modern European history.
Current research
In my current project, I take a closer look at the practice of confessing oneself in the context of 17th-century Bavaria and Austria. I thus want to reexamine the Counter-Reformation from the angle of religious practice.
