Varieties of Life Course Patterns: The Role of Institutions in Shaping Labour Market Careers in Europe (2008-2010).
Research Project in the frame of the EqualSoc Network of Excellence

Co-ordinators: Martina Dieckhoff (WZB) and Nadia Steiber (EUI).
Drawing on anonymised micro-data from the EU Labour Force Survey (1983-2005), this project undertakes a fine-grained investigation of people's economic activity across the different stages of the life-course and family life-cycle. The unique sample sizes of the EULFS allow us to account for within-country variations in people’s work-life biographies in the EU-25 that cannot be captured by smaller-scale comparative survey data. Moreover, the data allow for an in-depth analysis of temporal change in institutional contexts and the consequences of such changes on work/life biographies. The project involves nine researchers from five different countries.

European Social Survey Question Module: 'Work, Family and Well-Being: The Implications of Economic Recession'
This Round 5 module (fielded in 2010/11) is a partial repeat of the Round 2 module 'Family, Work and Well-Being'. It will provide crucial insights into the extent to which different types of employment and welfare regime are able to mediate the social consequences of economic crisis. Team: Duncan Gallie (Oxford, UK), Martina Dieckhoff (WZB, Germany), Helen Russell (ESRI, Ireland), Nadia Steiber (WU, Austria), Michael Tahlin (Stockholm University, Sweden).

WORKCARE SYNERGIES is a support action with the aim of disseminating research findings of previous EU Framework Programme projects in the field of work-care. Our dissemination scheme is based on the concept of local key mediator teams, which are based in each of the seven countries where dissemination will take place. The mediator teams consist of local researchers, knowledge transfer and communication specialists.
